Eurotunnel Vouchers Update

We buy the majority of fuel from our travels from Tesco so we can take advantage of the Clubcard scheme.
The vouchers acquired will go to help keep the potential cost of our "Debut" European Trip cheaper than it could possibly be.

Somerset Lions Transport

Here at the Somerset Lions our transport policy is to provide the opportunity for people to travel to EVERY home game and some away games.

Most games are serviced by a 17 seater mini bus.

We are fully registered with VOSA to cover the hire and reward implications of charging a “fare” for the mini-bus as a non profit making organisation.

You must be a member of the Lions Club to travel with us (see membership page for details etc).

Pick up time and pick up places vary depending on demand but the basic “run” is Shepton Mallet via the A303 to the M5 and picking up there at various points from Junction 26(Wellington) to Avonmouth/Gordano Services.

Payment for seats is due on the day of the match and normally collected at the coffee stop at Michaelwood Sevices. The fare fluctuates depending on demand but is normally £15 for all home games for an Adult. Away games are priced on an individual basis as fuel costs and vehicle size may vary but as an example Blackburn was £20pp but payment for transport for these games has to made at the same time as the payment for match tickets

Youth/Child places are available on all journeys at half price of the adult fare providing at least 10 adults are travelling and there is availability.

Concession Update Sunday 14 November 2010

On Saturday (13-11-10) I was asked the question:

“Do we offer concession rate travel to OAP’s?”

I answered "We don’t at the moment and it is something that the club should consider and should implement if possible". I have now spent some time going over the figures and regrettably at the moment we, as a club, can only continue to offer concessionary pricing to youths under 16.

The Youth’s concession was initially brought in to encourage Parents to bring their offspring with them and even that was with the proviso of at least 10 Full paying Adults on the mini-bus.

Due to the number of people travelling recently and the “make up” of these people I have worked out that should we have charged “OAP” concessions as well as the youths we would have made a loss of over £150 on the buses we have run so far this season alone.

We have to remember that as a club we have been giving a discount of £5pp per trip per adult for the last 56 trips compared to previous regimes (£15pp Cost instead of £20pp) which equates to a maximum possible saving of £280. Away Travel is also now considerably cheaper (as the recent trip to Fulham showed, £15pp instead of £25pp previously) than it was in the past.

As like many other organisations and businesses we have seen a downturn in turnover/passenger numbers, although I am pleased to say your loyalty has been remarkable and humbling in regards to renewals of membership, and coupled with increased fuel costs we are having to cut our cloth accordingly. The most visible change of late is the less frequent running of the “Lucky Number 99 Free Travel Draw” mainly due to the almost 20% rise in diesel prices. (£1.03 per litre 05/12/09 compared to £1.23 last Saturday). This equates to an average increase in fuel costs of £12.80 a trip, so you can see something had to give.

I am always available to discuss this and any other issues regarding the running of the club and thank you for your loyal and continued support. It is always a massive disappointment to me when I am unable to bring into fruition any brilliant suggestion like the one above but I hope you can see and understand the reasons for not being able to “deliver” this time. Up The Villa !!!!

Please Note

As part of our learning curve with running transport etc it has come to light that in order to meet the requirements of current legislation and the conditions of our VOSA Permit we have to adhere to certain things. One of the main requirements is the tie up between alcohol and travelling TO sporting events. NO ALCOHOL is allowed on the bus and if we stop on the way where alcohol is served it must also be a “meal” stop as well. ref: (Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act 1985 and the Public Order Act 1986)
